Introduction to Systems Analysis: Mathematically Modeling Natural Systems

Buy

Systems and their mathematical description play an important role in all branches of science. This book offers an introduction to mathematical modeling techniques. It is intended for undergrad students in applied natural science, in particular earth and environmental science, environmental engineering, as well as ecology, environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, agronomy, and forestry.

The focus is on developing the basic methods of modeling. Students will learn how to build mathematical models of their own, but also how to analyze the properties of existing models. The book neither derives mathematical formulae, nor does it describe modeling software, instead focusing on the fundamental concepts behind mathematical models. A formulary in the appendix summarizes the necessary mathematical knowledge. To support independent learners, numerous examples and problems from various scientific disciplines are provided throughout the book. Thanks in no small part to the cartoons by Nikolas Stürchler, this introduction to the colorful world of modeling is both entertaining and rich in content

Programming Pearls (2nd Edition)
Programming Pearls (2nd Edition)
"The first edition of Programming Pearls was one of the most influential books I read early in my career, and many of the insights I first encountered in that book stayed with me long after I read it. Jon has done a wonderful job of updating the material. I am very impressed at how fresh the new examples seem."

Rf And Baseband Techniques for Software Defined Radio
Rf And Baseband Techniques for Software Defined Radio
Software defined radio (SDR) is an emerging form of radio architecture, which
encompasses a wide range of design techniques in order to realize a truly flexible,
and potentially future-proof, transceiver system. As a field, it is very broad, encompassing:
systems design, RF, IF, and baseband analogue hardware design, digital...

Theory of Relational Databases
Theory of Relational Databases
This book is a revision and extension of notes I wrote for a graduate seminar in relational database theory given at Stony Brook. The purpose of that course was to give students enough background in relational database theory to enable them to understand the current research being done in the field. I have not attempted to be exhaustive in covering...
Information Processing with Evolutionary Algorithms: From Industrial Applications to Academic Speculations
Information Processing with Evolutionary Algorithms: From Industrial Applications to Academic Speculations
The last decade of the twentieth century has witnessed a surge of interest in numerical, computational intensive approaches to information processing. The lines that draw the boundaries between statistics, optimization, artificial intelligence and information processing are disappearing and it is not uncommon to find well founded and sophisticated...
