Like the first edition, the second edition of Musculoskeletal Imaging Companion is primarily designed for students and radiology trainees to provide the basics on imaging of common musculoskeletal diseases. However, this companion may also be useful as a quick reference for nonmusculoskeletal radiologists. The second edition includes updated material and references and more than 200 new images. There are also multiple new sections, tables, and illustrations.
Chapter 1 covers basic imaging protocols to avoid redundancy in later chapters. The section on angiography is more detailed, and positron emission tomography has been added. Chapters 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 are anatomically based and cover trauma and other conditions specific to the anatomic regions. Chapters 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 discuss tumors, infection, metabolic disease, arthropathies, marrow disorders, miscellaneous conditions, and imaging of orthopedic appliances and prostheses.
Each chapter is designed to provide basic key points on clinical and imaging features of each disorder. The utility of multiple modalities is demonstrated and ÑÐЬbest approachesÑÐÐ are described where appropriate. Although it was impossible to include all musculoskeletal disorders, we hope we have provided a quick, easy-to-use resource for imaging evaluation of common and important diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system.
