Organic Semiconductors in Sensor Applications (Springer Series in Materials Science)

Buy
Organic semiconductors offer unique characteristics such as tunability of electronic properties via chemical synthesis, compatibility with mechanically flexible substrates, low-cost manufacturing, and facile integration with chemical and biological functionalities. These characteristics have prompted the application of organic semiconductors and their devices in physical, chemical, and biological sensors. This book covers this rapidly emerging field by discussing both optical and electrical sensor concepts. Novel transducers based on organic light-emitting diodes and organic thin-film transistors, as well as systems-on-a-chip architectures are presented. Functionalization techniques to enhance specificity are outlined, and models for the sensor response are described.

Making an Impact Online (Business on a Shoestring)
'A brand new series aimed at small businesses, with another four volumes to come later in the year. These cover different subjects to most series and they look great. Ideas, examples, tips and sources of further information add up to a great little package in each.' The Bookseller (March 2007) 'All in all this is an excellent introduction for...
A Primer on Scientific Programming with Python (Texts in Computational Science and Engineering)
A Primer on Scientific Programming with Python (Texts in Computational Science and Engineering)

The book serves as a first introduction to computer programming of scientific applications, using the high-level Python language. The exposition is example and problem-oriented, where the applications are taken from mathematics, numerical calculus, statistics, physics, biology and finance. The book teaches "Matlab-style" and...

Handbook of Food Factory Design
Handbook of Food Factory Design

Food manufacturing has evolved over the centuries from kitchen industries to modern, sophisticated production operations. A typical food factory includes the food processing and packaging lines, the buildings and exterior landscaping, and the utility-supply and waste-treatment facilities. As a single individual is unlikely to possess all the...

Mycotoxins in Food: Detection and Control
Mycotoxins in Food: Detection and Control
Recent research has increased awareness of chemical residues and natural contaminants in food. At the same time, consumer concerns about food safety have also grown. At a national and international level this has resulted in more stringent imposition of new, legislative limits for a range of mycotoxins which can contaminate food...

Beyond Corporate Social Responsibility: Oil Multinationals and Social Challenges
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has emerged as an important approach for addressing the social and environmental impact of company activities. Yet companies are increasingly expected to go beyond this. They are now often expected to assist in addressing many of the world's most pressing problems, including climate change, poverty and...
HTML5 for Web Designers
HTML5 for Web Designers

When Mandy Brown, Jason Santa Maria and I formed A Book Apart, one topic burned uppermost in our minds, and there was only one author for the job.

Nothing else, not even "real fonts" or CSS3, has stirred the standards-based design community like the imminent arrival of HTML5. Born out of dissatisfaction with the pacing...
