Case-Based Reasoning Research and Development: Second International Conference on Case-Based Reasoning, ICCBR-97 Providence

Buy
In 1995, the first International Conference on Case-Based Reasoning (ICCBR) was held in Sesimbra, Portugal, as the start of a biennial series. ICCBR-97, the Second International Conference on Case-Based Reasoning, was held at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, on July 25-27, 1997. The goal of the conference was to achieve a vibrant interchange between researchers and practitioners with different perspectives on fundamentally related issues, in order to examine and advance the state of the art in case-based reasoning and related fields.

ICCBR-97 featured a selection of mature work and new ideas from case-based reasoning research and applications. Researchers and developers from 19 countries submitted a total of 102 papers to the conference. Out of these submissions, 28 were presented as talks and 31 were presented as posters.

The conference was chaired by David Leake of Indiana University and Enric Plaza of IIIA-CSIC (the Spanish Scientific Research Council). They gratefully acknowledge the careful effort of the Program Committee and additional reviewers during the paper selection process. Members of the Program Committee and additional reviewers are listed on the following pages.

The Chairs give special thanks for the assistance and generous support ICCBR-97 received from the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), the Catalan Association for Artificial Intelligence (ACIA), IJCAI Inc., Inference Corporation, LEXIS-NEXIS, and the European Network of Excellence in Machine Learning (MLnet).

The Chairs would also like to thank Alfred Hofmann, Computer Science Editor at Springer-Verlag, for his assistance in publishing these proceedings; Thomas Dean, of the Computer Science Department of Brown University, for his sponsorship of the conference at Brown University; Patricia Henry, Director of Conference Services at Brown University, for making the local arrangements for the conference; and the Indiana University Conference Bureau for administering the conference registration process.
