Inspired by the structure of the human brain, artificial neural networks have found many applications due to their ability to solve cumbersome or intractable problems by learning directly from data. Neural networks can adapt to new environments by learning, and deal with information that is noisy, inconsistent, vague, or probabilistic. This volume of Neural Network Systems Techniques and Applications is devoted to major applications in Image Processing and Pattern Recognition

Neuroanatomical Tract-Tracing: Molecules, Neurons, and Systems
Neuroanatomical Tract-Tracing: Molecules, Neurons, and Systems
Having been available for 70 years, it seems reasonable to ask what transmission electron microscopy (TEM) can add to the investigation of the nervous system in the new millennium. Today, the basic synaptic organization of most brain regions is known, as is the morphological detail of most neurons and support cells. Chapters in...

Extended Surface Heat Transfer
Extended Surface Heat Transfer
Extended surfaces, in the forms of longitudinal or radial fins or spines are ubiquitous in applications where the need exists to enhance heat transfer between a surface and an adjacent fluid. Applications range from very large scale, as with tubes in heat exchangers, to the very small, as is the case for the temperature control of...
